DAY 4

Day 4: Pleasing God, Not People

Read and write out Galatians 1:10-12.

No matter how many messages we’ve heard on the perils of seeking human approval, we can’t rush past this emphasis in Paul’s letter to the Galatians. The concept is too relevant to our present cultural challenges. We could post Galatians 1:10 on social media with pure intentions and find ourselves a few hours later looking to see how many people liked it. The craving for human approval long predated us, of course. Mortals have possessed a voracious appetite for one another’s praise since life existed outside the garden. Christ confronted the ravenous desire as a tower obstacle to faith and sharing the gospel with others.

Whose approval do you most want to attain or sustain - both individuals or groups of people?

Take a few minutes and think about why you want each person’s or group's listed approval. Write down the “why” next to each name.

Complete this sentence according to Galatians 1:10. If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a _______________________________.

Leader Challenge: Challenge students over the next couple of days to memorize Galatians 1:10. See if your group can collectively recite it at the start of your small group this week.
